Niskacin

Overview:
NISKACIN Injection contains Amikacin. Amikacin is derived from kanamycin A. Amikacin binds to specific 30S-subunit proteins and 16S rRNA. Aminoglycosides are useful primarily in infections involving aerobic, Gram-negative bacteria.

Amikacin is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic.
Antibacterial.
NISKACIN Injection can be used in the treatment of the following conditions:
- Short term treatment of serious infections due to susceptible strains of gram negative bacteria.
- Meningitis
- Infection of blood, abdomen, lungs, skin, bones
- Joint infection
- Urinary tract infection
15 mg/kg/day of NISKACIN Injection which may be administered as a single daily dose or divided into 2 equal doses i.e. 7.5 mg/kg every12 hours.
Amikacin inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit to prevent the formation of an initiation complex with messenger RNA.
