Overview of Isotretinoin Softgel Capsules:
CENTINO Softgel Capsules contains Isotretinoin. Isotretinoin used in the treatment of choice for severe acne that has not improved with other acne therapies.

Isotretinoin is the only available acne drug that affects all four major pathogenic processes in acne:
A. Increased sebum production,
B. Follicular hyperkeratinization
C. Propionibacterium acne colonization and
D. The inflammatory products, which distinguishes it from alternative treatments (such as antibiotics) and accounts for its efficacy in severe, nodulocystic cases.

Isotretinoin belong to the class of Retinoids.

CENTINO Softgel Capsules can be used in the treatment of following conditions:

  • Acne vulgaris (severe acne/cyctic/nodular acne and acne not responding to other treatments).
  • Anti-ageing and for treating facial wrinkles.
  • Prevention of skin cancer in xeroderma pigmentosa.

Adults: CENTINO Softgel Capsule can be taken either once a day or in two divided doses during the day, only as prescribed by Physician. Normally, one should not take more than 1mg of Isotretinoin per kilogram of bodyweight per day. A normal course of treatment lasts between 4-6 months.
Category X drug (demonstrates foetal abnormalities and contraindicated in women who are pregnant or getting pregnant).

Exact mechanism of action of Isotretinoin is not known but studies shows that it induces sebaceous gland apoptosis (cell death). One study suggests the drug amplifies production of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) in the skin, which has been shown to reduce sebum production by inducing apoptosis in sebaceous gland cells, while exhibiting an antimicrobial effect on Propionibacterium acnes.
