Nizithro
(Azithromycin 500 mg Tablets)
It is new azalide congener of erythromycin. It is a subclass of macrolide antibiotics.
Antibacterial.
It is indicated for treatment of chlamydial pneumonia, trachoma of eyes, pharyngitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, streptococcal and some staphylococcal skin and soft tissue infections, gonorrhoea, prophylaxis and treatment of MAC (Mycobacterium avium complex) in AIDS patients.
For Adults :500 mg once daily.
It acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to 50S subunit
of bacterial ribosome and thus inhibits translation of mRNA.
