Overview of Tranexamic Acid + Mefenamic Acid Tablets:
TEXANIS-MF Tablets contains Tranexamic Acid that may slow the bleeding and Mefenamic Acid that reduces pain. In this way, it may act to lighten the burden of the menstrual cycle.
Tranexamic acid is about 10 times more potent in vitro than aminocaproic acid and binds more strongly. Tranexamic acid reduces menstrual blood loss and is a possible alternative to surgery in menorrhagia. Mefenamic acid is used to relieve moderately severe pain, such as muscular aches and pains, menstrual cramps, headaches.
Tranexamic acid belongs to the class of carboxylic acids. Mefenamic acid belongs to the class of aminobenzoic acids.
TEXANIS-MF Tablets can be used in the treatment of the following conditions:
- Idiopathic menorrhagia (heavy menstrual blood loss of > 80ml per cycle) and menstrual pain.
- Alternative to surgery in menorrhagia. Tranexamic acid should be offered to women with dysfunctional bleeding before a decision is made about surgery
Two TEXANIS-MF Tablets 3-4 times a day on initiation of heavy menstrual bleeding till the bleeding has stopped, or as directed by physician.
Tranexamic acid produces antifibrinolytic effect by competitively inhibiting the activation of plasminogen to plasmin. It is also a weak noncompetitive inhibitor of plasmin. Mefenamic acid is a NSAID.
