Overview:

SULTAGARD Tablet contains Sultamicillin 375mg (Ampicillin 225mg + Sulbactam 150mg)
Sultamicillin contains sulbactam and ampicillin. Sulbactam is a semisynthetic beta-lactamase inhibitor which, in combination with ampicillin, extends the antibacterial activity Sultamicillin, with antibacterial activity and is clinically effective in patients with infections of the respiratory tract, ears, nose and throat, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, as well as in obstetric and gynaecological infections, and in the treatment of gonorrhoea. Ampicillin/Sulbactam is used to treat infections caused by bacteria resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics.

Ampicillin belong to the class of β-lactam antibiotic and Sulbactam belong to the class of β-lactamase inhibitor.

SULTAGARD Tablets can be used in the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Urinary Tract infections
  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Otitis media
  • Skin and Soft Tissue infections
  • Meningitis
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhea.

Adults and Children (>30Kg): 375 to 750mg SULTAGARD Tablet twice daily.
Children (<30Kg): 25 to 50 mg, kg & day SULTAGARD Tablet in two divided doses or as directed by Physician.

Ampicillin/sulbactam is a combination of a β-lactam antibiotic and a β-lactamase inhibitor. Ampicillin works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis. This causes disruption of the bacterial cell wall and leads to bacterial cell death. Sulbactam, which binds and inhibits the β-lactamase enzymes.
