Overview:
BACTONIS Injection contains Cefoperazone and Sulbactam. Because of its broad spectrum of activity, most infections can be treated adequately with this antibiotic. Cefoperazone has been proposed especially against Pseudomonas infections.
Cefoperazone is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor.
It is an antibacterial. It shows stronger activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
BACTONIS Injection can be used in the treatment of the following conditions:
Adult Dose: 2-4g/day (1-2g/day each of Cefoperazone and Sulbactam) BACTONIS Injection by IV or IM given every 12hrs. Dose may be increased with the severity of infection, or as directed by Physician.
Cefoperazone is a semi-synthetic broad spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis of actively dividing cells by binding to one or more penicillin binding proteins (PBPs). Sulbactam is a derivative of the basic penicillin nucleus, is a β-lactamase inhibitor and acts primarily by irreversible inactivation of β-lactamases.
