NISIVIR

Acyclovir Injection

Overview:

Nisivir (Acyclovir Injection) is a potent antiviral medication used to treat severe herpes virus infections, including herpes simplex, varicella-zoster (chickenpox & shingles), and herpes encephalitis. It works by inhibiting viral DNA replication, thereby reducing the severity and duration of infections. Nisivir is essential in immunocompromised patients and those with severe systemic viral infections.

Natural Laxative

  • Adults: 5–10 mg/kg IV every 8 hours over 1 hour for 5–10 days
  • Herpes Encephalitis: 10 mg/kg IV every 8 hours for 14–21 days
  • Neonatal Herpes: 20 mg/kg IV every 8 hours for 14–21 days
  • Renal impairment: Dose adjustment required

Nisivir can be used in the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Severe Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) infections (encephalitis, neonatal herpes, immunocompromised patients)
  • Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV) infections (severe chickenpox or shingles)
  • Herpes encephalitis
  • Prophylaxis in immunocompromised patients (e.g., post-transplant, HIV/AIDS)

Acyclovir is a nucleoside analogue that selectively targets viral DNA polymerase, inhibiting viral replication without affecting human cells. It is activated by viral thymidine kinase, ensuring specificity against infected cells. This mechanism makes it highly effective in reducing viral load and disease severity.
