VASORTA

Overview:

Vasorta is a highly effective angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) containing Telmisartan, available in 20 mg and 40 mg formulations. Telmisartan is used primarily in the management of hypertension and for cardiovascular risk reduction. By inhibiting the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes vasoconstriction, Telmisartan helps to relax blood vessels, lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and kidney damage. Vasorta offers potent blood pressure control and protective effects on the heart and kidneys

Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs)

Initial Dose: For most patients: 20 mg once daily.

Hypertensive patients may start at 40 mg once daily, depending on the severity of hypertension

  • Essential Hypertension: For the treatment of primary hypertension to lower elevated blood pressure in adults.
  • Cardiovascular Risk Reduction: To reduce the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and other cardiovascular events in hypertensive patients with an increased cardiovascular risk.
  • Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): For the protection of renal function in hypertensive patients with diabetic nephropathy or other conditions that cause kidney impairment.

Vasorta contains Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by selectively blocking the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1 receptor). Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor that causes blood vessels to narrow, which increases blood pressure. By blocking the AT1 receptor, Telmisartan prevents vasoconstriction, leading to vasodilation (relaxation of blood vessels). This action effectively lowers blood pressure, reduces the workload on the heart, and improves blood flow. Additionally, Telmisartan helps to reduce aldosterone secretion, which decreases sodium and fluid retention, further aiding in blood pressure control
