Gatifloxacin 0.5% w/v is a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone with robust bacterial coverage. Studies in J Cataract Refract Surg (2019) found a 91% success rate in treating bacterial keratitis.

Gatireal HS can be used in the treatment of the following conditions:

Bacterial conjunctivitis caused by fluoroquinolone-resistant strains
Corneal ulcers and microbial keratitis
Pre- and post-surgical ocular infection prophylaxis
Bacterial endophthalmitis adjunct therapy

Gatifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, interfering with DNA replication, repair, and transcription, leading to bacterial cell death.
